The film was shown over a period of three days to the public as well as doctors, nurses and medical students during the festival.   He was asked to participate by one of Mike's own doctors, Dr. Joseph Benevenia, a world reknowned orthopedic surgeon.  It was Dr. Benevenia who performed the limb salvage procedure on Michael during his cancer treatment.

Dr. Benevenia is also an artist and one of the founders of the festival.  When he is not performing surgery he is a sculptor and his works were also featured along with the other various works of art by other doctors and nurses.

During the festival, Michael conducted a question and answer period at the conclusion of film and discussed patient sensitivity, the family's role in cancer treatment and adolescent patient care from his experience.  Dr. Benevenia thought the film, "The Cowboy" offer the medical staff a unique perspective in their roles as medical professionals.
